A flotilla of U.S. landing craft, filled with U.S. Army troops from the 27th Infantry Division approach the beach at Japanese-held Makin Island during World War 2. Some of the landing craft (Higgins boats) are from the Attack Transport ship, USS Leonard Wood (APA-12) and others are from the USS Calvert (APA-32).
