Launch of a German A-5 rocket (precursor to A-4 or V-2 rocket), from a test site in Greifswalder Oie, an island in Germany. Missile takes off emitting smoke and fire. Soon after liftoff the rocket propulsion system fails, and a thick cloud of liquid oxygen trails the vehicle. The recovery parachute deploys, and the rocket descend rapidly to earth trailing liquid oxygen from a ruptured propellant tank. (World War II period).

German A-5 rocket launches off from a test site in Greifswalder Oie, an island in Germany, during World War 2. A-5 was a precursor to the A-4 or V-2 rocket. The rocket is positioned right next to a control bunker. Rocket takes off straight upwards, emitting well-defined hot gases. It then bends course towards horizontal. As the flight continues, the rocket appears to lose some thrust and control and begins to descend.

Rocket takes off emitting smoke and fire. It moves unsteadily upwards as a fiery flare emerges from its tail. A German Fieseler Storch aircraft takes off from the launch site and flies over sea to locate the rocket after it has descended into the sea.The plane then lands, and a ship with a German flag hoisted over it carries the recovered missile to shore. Details of damage sustained by the missile and its recovery parachute bay are shown, as well as details of the exhaust steering vane assembly.
