A large wooden replica of the Iron Cross medal is set up outdoors, where persons may drive nails into it, to mark their contributions of from one to five marks to the Red Cross, during World War 1. An older man in military uniform taps several nails into the top of the cross. Visiting American, Jane Addams, co-founder of Hull House, in Chicago, and President of the newly formed Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) stands nearby observing, as the man sets a nail into position at the center of the cross. He then lifts a small boy up, so he can finish hammering it in.

Soldiers go through the assault course with gas masks, under fire, at the U.S. Army Ranger Combat Training School in Fort Shafter, Hawaii, during World War 2. Opening scene shows several trainees in gas masks carrying rifles with fixed bayonets, advancing through rough terrain in which tear gas fumes are seen. Closeup of one soldier, wearing steel helmet and mask, but otherwise stripped to the waist, as he bayonets a stuffed dummy target on the course. He uses his bayonet on another dummy that drops down on him as he scrambles out of a tunnel. Views of other soldiers passing through the same portion of the training course. As they leave the tunnel, they encounter more gas that billows across their path. Change of scene shows the soldiers climbing over obstacles placed in their path. Closeups of some trainees scrambling over obstacles. Some soldiers are seen crawling as camera pans to sniper firing from a palm tree. Next, they must traverse another obstacle and engage two more dummies with their bayonets, next to barbed wire fence. As they pass a steep hill, an explosion occurs raising smoke and causing rocks and dirt to fall down towards them. Next, they must make their way along a ravine lined with barbed wire. One fires his rifle. Closeups of several trainees climbing out of a water filled ravine and crossing a stream on makeshift footholds. Soldiers must run on a log to cross a creek, as explosive charges explode around them. They emerge from a tunnel and charge up a steep dirt hill to encounter another dummy to bayonet. Film ends displaying a sign that exhorts soldiers to embrace killing and reminding them survival requires that they KILL or be KILLED. It is signed by Lieutenant General Lesley James McNair, Chief of the Army Ground Forces. It ends: "WE are not going to be killed!"

Emmons, commanding general of the Hawaiian department, decorates the officers and men of the submarine USS Trout in ceremonies held at Pearl Harbor, in recognition of their successful performance of a mission for the war department in enemy controlled waters in World War 2. At the left is Lieutenant Commander Frank W. Fenno, captain of the Trout. Assisting the general is Lt. Col. E.B. Whisner, secretary of the general's staff. View of Army band and honor guards on dock. U.S. Navy officers in ranks behind Army Color Guard. Standard bearer carrying General's flag. Scene shifts again to deck of the USS Trout. The General's three-star flag flies from the Trout's mast. (Note: The mission of the Trout was to deliver anti-aircraft ammunition to the U.S. forces defending Corregidor. Fenno's sub was called on to deliver the ammunition because surface ships and aircraft were unable to penetrate the tight Japanese defenses. The mission was classified as "top secret." The USS Trout delivered the munitions and then brought back more than 6 tons of Philippine gold and 630 bags of silver, as ballast. Commander Fenno was awarded the Navy Cross and the Distinguished Service Cross, by the United States Army, and the officers and enlisted men of the Trout each received the Silver Star for successfully completing this unusual and dangerous mission. The USS Trout received a Presidential Unit Citation.)

The advantages of battle formations during World War II. A U.S. Army Rifle Squad officer talks about imagination and alertness during battle. The Sergeants seated around a desk. A model on the desk. The officer asks the Sergeants questions about the conditions they will adopt during different situations, and they explain it with the help of the model. Question for the interior unit is about the exact route to be followed to reach the road. The other situation is where the Squad Leader asks them to take their squad through a bridge and cover his crossing. The next situation is where the platoon moves forward, an officer gives a signal, the squad deploys, and when he returns, they are moving in different directions. Next, the Platoon moves into a thick wooded area and command a left squad, you are under orders not to change your formation without the permission of the platoon leader. The last situation is where the platoon leader has become irresponsible, you are the leader, and the troops advance and artillery is fired. How would you cross this field and what action's will you take. The sergeants answer one by one and take the help of the model.
