A huge explosion is seen as the torpedo, launched by the U.S. Submarine, USS Sabalo (SS-302) strikes the Foss amidship. The Foss breaks into two pieces, which float separately, until they begin to sink slowly. The bow, displaying the number 59 points almost straight up as it begins to sink. A helicopter flies low over the scene.
