General Mark W. Clark boards a plane and arrives at Milan Airport, at the end of World War II. General Willis D. Crittenberger greets him. General Clark, Lieutenant General Sir Richard L. G. McCreery and General Crittenberger sit in a Jeep. They inspect honor guard composed of troops and tanks of various nationalities including South African, British, Brazilian etc.
Italian leader Benito Mussolini leaves Rome by train to meet Adolf Hitler in Munich, Germany. As he passes Italian honor guard to board the train, the troops shout "Duce" repeatedly, in unison. He arrives at the railway station in Germany. A large banner conveys Germany's welcome to the "Duce." A line of military men hold shovels. Women and children wave Italian flags. A German military band plays. Mussolini waves from his rail car window. People cheer. People wave to him. Rows of children at the railway station. People chant "Duce."
International Labor Rally at St Peters Square in Rome. 30, 000 members of the Catholic Workers Youth Movement gathered at the St. Peters Square (Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City) for the International Labor Rally. Pope Pius XII seated on a throne accompanied by many cardinals and bishops as they attend the rally. Representatives of almost 87 nations attend the rally. General George Patton is welcomed at Palermo in Sicily and meets with Catholic Church Cardinal Lavitrano. Army Engineers construct mountain highways. The crew is seen working and using dynamite charges in mountain side to more quickly build a road bed for advancing supplies. Road building machinery at work. Bridges are constructed. Captured Italian soldiers and Italian officers are marched as prisoners of war in Sicily.
Newsreel 'Fashion parade'. Models parade in elegant Rome saloons in the latest designs of Italian fashion designers. Balloon skirts and Harem hemlines are given more emphasis.
Pope John XXIII presides over final meeting of the First Session of the twenty-first Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church at St. Peter's Basilica (Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City) in the Vatican City. Two thousand cardinals, bishops, and other prelates of the Roman Catholic Church are in attendance. The altar with Bernini's baldacchino stands in the middle of the meeting. The Council granted Bishops more authority regarding the use of modern languages in the liturgy of the church. The Pope is quoted as saying He has "heard the voice of the whole Catholic World." Attendees are seen leaving St. Peter's after the end of the session. (Note: This was one of the activities undertaken during The Second Vatican Council, also known as “Vatican II," which focused on relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the modern world.)
