Harold Christian, wearing Converse All Stars high top shoes, steps 20 inches to a platform once every two seconds. After some minutes, when cued by the medical staff watching, he stops stepping and immediately lies on a backward inclined table (for 25 minutes to measure ability of the heart to compensate for body in an unusual position for an extended time). Medical personnel monitor his vital signs as he is on the inclined table.
Prospective NASA Project Mercury astronaut, James Wood undergoes an Equilibrium test at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Subject gets on to the equilibrium chair. Subject is seated on a chair which rotates simultaneously on two axes. He maintains the chair on an even keel by means of a control stick with and without vibration, normally and blindfolded.

NASA Project Mercury Evaluation board representatives from each of the sections evaluate test reports on the Prospective Project Mercury astronaut subject's performance at conclusion of each week.
