Women join ranks of police reserves in New York City, during World War I.
Closeup of women in the New York City Police reserve, during World War 1. They stand outside the 23rd Police Precinct ("Tenderloin") Station House on West 30th Street, Manhattan, New York City. Their uniforms include round-brimmed hats and overcoats, and they have round badges topped with eagles, pinned to their coats. Next, about 15 are seen, walking two abreast. All wear white gloves and badges, but otherwise, their uniforms are not identical. One supervisor woman walks beside the group, wearing a slightly different badge. Walking casually, a short distance behind the group is a woman (probably Mary Noonan) in the uniform of a captain (with "railroad tracks" insignia on her collar). Scene shifts to a street filled with a traffic mix of horse-drawn and motor vehicles, all staying fairly clear of trolley tracks visible in the center of the road. A police reserve woman stands in the center of the street, directing traffic. Next, a large group of school children is seen standing on a street corner, accompanied by a woman police officer. They begin to cross the street under the watchful eye of another woman reserve police officer, directing traffic in the street. Some adults cross behind the children. (Note: On May 9, 1918, the New York City Police Department announced formation of a new Police Reserve, that would include a women's contingent. This was the idea of Special Deputy Commissioner Rodman Wanamaker, who reasoned, since New York women had received the vote, on November 6th 1917, they should have a role in enforcing the laws. Over 3,000 women were recruited. Their Captain was Mary Noonan. Their duties did not involve direct dealings with criminals. According to the New York Times of May 10, 1918, "If need arose for use of the nightstick or other instrument for curbing crime,the work would be referred to the men members of the force.")

The U.S. Navy battleship, USS Tennessee (BB-43) passing the camera while conducting trials on Long Island Sound, in October, 1920, after being fitted out following her commissioning at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on on June 3, 1920. Her triple turret 14-inch guns are clearly visible as is the name, Tennessee, on her stern. She is seen again, raising plumes of black smoke as she steams in the opposite direction. All four of her triple 14-inch gun turrets are visible in silhouette. She is making good speed in very calm waters. (The camera ship is challenged to keep pace.) The Tennessee maneuvers to port in a fairly sharp turn, and the camera ship moves into her wake. A civilian, in hat and overcoat, is seen momentarily on the camera ship. More views of the Tennessee, include some from a distance as she maneuvers and heads toward the camera ship.

The Norden bomb sight is revealed to the U.S. public for the first time during World War II
The making of a public information film about the Norden bomb sight, during World War 2. Opening scene shows a Norden bomb sight on a pedestal, at the Museum of Science and Industry, in Radio City, Manhattan, New York City. It is flanked by U.S. Navy Captain, Irving Entwhistle and Shore Patrolman, Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class. Orville T. Payne. Another shore patrolman stands behind the bomb sight. The trio waits to begin. Then Captain Entwhistle begins to speak about the significance of the bomb sight to the war effort. The filming is interrupted and takes up again, focusing solely on Captain Entwhistle, as he continues to talk about the bomb sight, but is quickly interrupted, again, by the film director (heard, but not seen). The captain begins, repeating his scripted talk again. Scene shifts to Captain Entwhistle, now standing with hands on the bomb sight. He describes its operation as he maneuvers the sight. He notes the bomb sight's ability to take over control of the bomber's course to the precise drop point. Entwhistle, then looks up and comments: "Is that enough?" He then continues with his talk, but is interrupted, again. Next, Entwhistle picks up again, repeating part of his talk, while the camera pans over the bomb sight. Captain Entwhistle, states that, the instrument "is an automatic pilot, as well as a sight." He rotates the sight various ways for the camera, and asks: "'Want some more?" Scene changes, now showing Harold Barth, President of the Norden company, standing with Captain Entwhistle, who rotates the sight around on its pedestal, while chatting with him. (Microphones do not pick up the conversation.) Mr. Barth leans forward and peers through the sight. Next, in a closeup, the Captain manipulates the sight, while talking to Barth (sound not recorded). Ill-fated launch of Titan missile C-4 , in the 9th Titan I launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida
Views of what appears to be a smooth launching of a Titan missile. The service structure erector is released and the missile takes off. The camera tracks it as it moves ever higher, with rocket motors burning smoothly. As its image begins to get quite small in the distance, at TC:01:26, the missile begins failing, and explodes in a huge fireball. (Note: This was Missile C-4, the ninth Titan I launch and the second Lot C missile. The guidance compartment collapsed from aerodynamic stress 52 seconds into launch, causing missile pitch down followed by Range Safety destruct. The falling object is the second stage, which separated intact and inadvertently began firing. With no attitude control, it tumbled end over end until shutting down from propellant starvation and impacting the ocean several miles downrange.)
