French Marshal Joseph Joffre arrives in a long boat, at a dock in Yokohama, Japan. Steamships seen in the harbor, in the background. Japanese military officers await the arrival. Joffre, and his staff officers, are accompanied by a Japanese diplomat in a high hat, and Japanese military officers, as they walk along a pier. Two young Japanese girls present Joffre with bouquets of flowers. A train carrying Marshal Joffre and his staff and welcoming party arrives at the Tokyo railroad station, which is decorated with French and Japanese flags. Joffre is welcomed by an Honor Guard of the Empire and escorted across the platform toward the city, proper. Spectators line a platform on the other side of the tracks.
During U.S. Navy's Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. A tracked vehicle moves on snow in front of Observation Hill. (This area would become Mcmurdo Station.) A Military Air Transport Service (MATS) C-124C Aircraft taxis down sea-ice runway and turns around to takeoff . It makes makes a long takeoff roll and breaks ground with slow rate of climb, churning up a fog of snow in the process. . Small weasel with small trailer with fire extinguisher on it. Navy R5D Aircraft in the background taxiing for take off. R5D taxis. Yellow fuel truck is seen. R5D makes a jet assisted takeoff. Flame is seen from the JATO bottles under the aircraft during takeoff roll and much trailing smoke, as the aircraft breaks ground with a high rate of climb.
Steam locomotive pulls long passenger train up to dirigible hangar at Lakehurst Naval Air Station.Visitors crowded aroung outside the hangar to see the German dirigible, LZ 129, Hindenburg, parked inside the hangar. Crowd enters the gate of the building. Sign overhead reads 'No Packages or Cameras allowed inside hangar'. The visitors are monitored by U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy personnel, as they enter the hangar.

People leave the train after arrival and walk to side entrance of the hangar, where they queue up to enter and view the dirigible Hindenburg (LZ-129) parked inside.

Civilians with their belongings flee from plague and famine affected areas in Soviet Russia not long after end of World War I. Horse-drawn wagons pass on road. Refugees wait for evacuation boats near the Volga River. Famine victims in rural Kasan, Soviet Russia. Victims and children die due to starvation in their mothers' arms. An old age lady starves with a boy leaning against pole. Men, women and children together outside tents. Hungry children crowd around a soldier giving out morsels of bread. American Relief Administration supplies being unloaded from train at railroad station. An armed military guard stands nearby. People queued up for food. Steaming hot soup or stew is being served to citizens. Children receiving food in the soup line and eating . Malnourished children examined and assisted by relief experts Dr Vernon Lyman Kellogg and Elmer Burland.
