American soldiers fire 105mm and 155mm Howitzer artillery weapons in Italy during World War 2
Three 105mm Howitzer artillery guns fire. An American soldier cleans the bore of the weapon with a long-handled swab. The gunner adjusts the panoramic telescope by hand, and a soldier loads a shell into the breech, which is then closed and the lanyard pulled to fire the weapon. Smoke trails out of the barrel. Scene changes to a view of a larger, 155mm Howitzer. American soldiers carry a projectile on a tray, which is pushed into the bore by two men using a long staff. Bags of propellant are loaded next, the breech is closed, primer is inserted, and the lanyard is pulled, firing the weapon. Soldiers cover their ears and stand back from the recoil. The weapon is reloaded and fired again.

Willian Jennings Bryan, campaigning for President Wilson, as a private citizen, in 1916 (after having resigned as Wilson's Secretary of State). He stands in a car decorated with patriotic bunting and an American flag, in front of modest house in a rural area. Bryan is accompanied by several associates. A popular Wilson campaign photograph (coming loose at the top) is attached to the car door . The writing under Wilson's picture is not legible. As Bryan sits down in the car, his wife, Mary, is seen next to him. (She had been blocked from the camera while he stood.) The car drives away. In complete change of scene, a crowd is seen completely filling the lawn and grounds of "Shadow Lawn," President Wilson's Summer White House, at Long Branch, New Jersey. They have come to celebrate his renomination as Democratic candidate for President. Camera pans over the crowd. Next, President Wilson is seen standing on a step in the center of the garden, acknowledging and accepting the nomination.
Charles Lindbergh takes off from Roosevelt Field for his famous solo flight from New York to Paris.
People gathered early on a misty morning at Roosevelt Field, Long Island, New York, to watch as Charles Lindbergh attempts to make a solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in his airplane, The Spirit of St. Louis. The plane starts its takeoff role between groups of spectators, raising dust. The spectators move to get a better view as the plane continues, out of sight in the fog and mist. It is not clear where the plane is, although engine sound has changed. Spectators strain to see it through the mist. Then, some cheers are raised when the crowd realizes that Lindbergh has successfully taken off in his heavily laden airplane. The opening caption refers to Curtiss Field, where the Spirit of St. Louis was test flown and reportedly maintained in Hanger 16. there, from May 12th through the 20th. However, for the Paris flight, the plane was towed a mile to Roosevelt Field where, heavily loaded with fuel, it could take advantage of the longer runway for takeoff. (Note: Both fields were originally part of the old Hempstead Plains Field renamed Hazlehurst Field when taken over by the U.S. Army in 1917. U.S. Geological survey maps of 1918 show three areas named, respectively, Hazelhurst Aviation Field No. 1; Aviation Field No. 2; and Camp Albert L. Mills, abutting it. Field No. 2 was renamed Mitchel Field on July 16, 1918. The eastern part of Field No. 1 was dedicated as Roosevelt Field, on September 24, 1918. After the war, the western part of Field No. 1 became known as Curtiss Field, associated, as it was, with the Curtiss Aeroplane & Motor Company located there.)

United States President Woodrow Wilson and his party enter a car and leaves the White House in Washington DC for his Summer White House (or "Summer Capitol"), Shadow Lawn, in Long Branch New Jersey. Well-wishers at the White House stand and wave as the car departs the dirt road driveway of the White House, and a 2nd car with a security detail follows. View of Shadow Lawn, the estate of Joseph Benedict Greenhut. (The estate shown here was originally built in 1903 by John A. McCall of New York Life Insurance Company. He sold it to Greenhut. It was later destroyed by fire, and a mansion belonging to F.W. Woolworth President Hubert T. Parsons was built on the site. That estate is now part of Monmouth College). Large group of people gathered on the front lawn of Shadow Lawn to hear President Wilson speak at a 1916 campaign event. He is introduced and then approaches the podium as people cheer. The estate and podium area at the front of a soaring exterior portico is decorated with many American flags and swags.
