Horse-drawn carriages loaded with French refugee families and belongings move along a road. Street signs on road number 15 point toward Sauchy-Lestrée 2 km away, and Avrincourt, 12 km away. A chalk drawn arrow points toward Arras. French families evacuate using bicycles, baby carriages, and wagons. German troops arrive on motorcycles. Numerous German Pz.I, Pz.II, Pz.III and Pz.IV tanks pass through the village. Smoke rises from a burning building.

French citizens use every means at their disposal to evacuate a city ahead of German invasion. Damaged and abandoned French artillery guns in position in the Place Georges Clemenceau of the town of Fère-Champenoise (Marne). Dead horses lay on the pavement in the Place Clemenceau town square following battle. Camera pans along tow sides of the town square. Numerous dead horses are seen. Shops on two sides of the square are burned out and destroyed, including a restaurant on one corner and the Cafe du Commerce on another corner (Rebuilt and still there today in Place Clemenceau, 51230 Fère-Champenoise). Street sign is visible along N4 road pointing to Connantray-Vaurefroy, 5 km away, and Vitry-le-François, 44 km away.
