Early in World War 2, newsreel shows a Jewish refugee camp in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (shortly before it became part of the First Slovak Republic, or Slovakia). An open ground with tents as the refugee camp for Czech Jews in exile, whose land was taken over by Hungary (during its time of pro Nazi Germany foreign policy.) Starving Jewish women and infant children. Men cutting trees with a saw. Boy getting all hair shaved off his head. A number of Jewish refugees including children line up for a small amount of food kept on a table, and warm themselves by the fire.
Newsreel depicts the visit of former British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden to the United States. Anthony Eden gets into a limousine at Union Station. The U.S. Capitol can be seen at a distance. The cars move towards the White House. Women wave goodbye to the cars. Eden and other officials visit George Washington's tomb and home, Mount Vernon, in Alexandria, Virginia. Views of Mount Vernon. Views of Eden's wife accompanying him.
A documentary depicts parade by the students of an elite military academy at Saint Cyr in Western France. Troops of students at the training school of the French Army. Troops raise their swords to salute their flags. Commanders inspect troops. Marching troops preceded by cavaliers salute the Commanders of French Army.
A newsreel titled '200 lb Elephant Baby Arrives in Time for Holidays'. Three adult elephants inside a cage at a continental zoo in Europe. A new born, 200 lb baby elephant hides behinds its mother as a hand of a visitor tries to touch it. The cage has its base covered with saw dust to provide cushioning for the elephants. The cage also has an orchestra drum along with other musical instruments inside. Sound of the elephants playing their instruments in the background.
Newsreel titled 'Opera Stars Sing Xmas Music for Settlement Kids.' Metropolitan Opera stars Lauritz Melchior and Elizabeth Rethberg, Amy Ellerman and Enzio Pinza stage a performance on Christmas for the small poor children of Henry Street Settlement in New York. Pianist accompanies the opera stars as they sing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful." Children enjoy and clap as the singers finish.
Evacuation of Czech Jews fleeing Nazi German persecution in Czechoslovakia early during World War 2. They board a Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij or KLM (Dutch Airlines) airplane. Most passengers are women and small children. A woman, from the plane waves to her relatives standing at the airport terminal building. A large crowd gathered outside the terminal building and ticketing office. Boys and girls wave and smile as they enter the tarmac area and approach the parked aircraft. The Pilot of the plane looks from the cockpit. The same plane brought such a group to Croydon Airport (Airport House, Purley Way, Croydon CR0 0XZ, United Kingdom), London, United Kingdom, in January 1939.
