Relates to the U.S. Antarctic expedition,Operation High Jump. Shows U.S. Navy fleet in Antarctica. A group of emperor penguins. Antics of the penguins. Sailors anchor the ships with "dead men" (sunk pylons). Aircraft, vehicles and equipment including Weasels, trucks, bulldiozers, are unloaded from the ships up to "Little America." Huskies carry sailors on sledges and sleds. Demolition team plant charges and clears the way ahead. Men build an airstrip on the ice for the landings of U.S. DC-3 (R4D) aircraft. Tracked caterpillars and bulldozer level the surface. The expedition team starts to settle in Antarctica.

Search and rescue mission for PBM Mariner George I, in Antarctica during Operation High Jump

Relates to the U.S. Antarctic expedition,Operation High Jump in 1946. Reconnaissance aircraft take off for a search and rescue mission in Antarctica. Crew members of a PMB-5 Mariner aircraft fly above the Antarctica in search of a crashed airplane crew - the crew of the Mariner George 1. The missing crew is located on Thurston Island after 13 days by Commander Howell, supplies are dropped for the survivors and they are rescued finally. Aerial scenes of the crew discovered and the names of the dead painted by the survivors on the plane wing. Three did not survive: Max Lopez, Bud Hendersin, Fred Williams. Captain George Dufek welcomes the survivors. Survivors Captain Caldwell, Moore, Robbins, Kearns, McCarthy, eating their food (not including seriously injured "Frenchie" LeBlanc). Coastguard icebreaker arrives. Supplies and equipment are loaded back on the ships. Admiral Richard E. Byrd is seen. Animated map shows the statistics of Operation High Jump.

Different species of birds on Ascension Island seen as Ernest Shackleton's ship, The Quest, is returning to Antarctica

Film of the Quest's return journey, 8 months after the death of SIr Ernest Shackleton at South Georgia, Antarctica (on January 3, 1922). The expedition has stopped at Ascension Island en route to Antarctica. On 4th August, the expedition's naturalist George Hubert Wilkins, together with Major C. A. Tennyson (Commandant of the Ascension Island Garrison), explores a colony of sooty terns (also known as Wideawakes).

U.S. 223rd Infantry Regiment soldiers set up sound locators, locate enemy artillery positions and fire in Korea.

U.S. soldiers of the 223rd Infantry Regiment Counter Fire Platoon run through dense undergrowth looking for a place to locate the sound recording equipment in Korea, during the Korean War. They cross a road and run uphill carrying heavy equipment. Soldiers reach the hill top and take out the equipment from boxes. Soldiers open the bags and boxes. They set up the sound locators on the side of the hill. Brown sets up the microphones in a pattern called an array on ground higher than the surrounding hills. Military vehicles on the road below. Soldiers fix equipment and smoke. Gun and artillery fire sound. A soldier records the artillery fire sound while another one records the sound as a visual image. Another soldier computes the direction line and radios the information to the counter fire headquarters. 'Counter Fire Plt' sign board outside tents. The plotter plots down the information on a boards and draws the direction line on a map. He pin points the enemy gun and draws it on a chart. He then calls the artillery fire direction center. A soldier receives the message. An intelligence officer checks the information and the order is sent to the artillery battery. Soldiers amidst barricades. They load HE fire charges and fire a 105 Howitzer. Many artillery guns fired. A soldier watches through binoculars.
