Allied convoy In North Sea during World War II. Very heavy surf and waves in rough conditions. U.S. Coast Guard cutter Spencer (USCGC Spencer (WPG-36)) picks up survivors from a ship sunk by torpedoes. Small craft along side ship being rescued in heavy seas. In next scene, on April 17, 1943, United States Coast Guard ship Spencer drops depth charges which force Nazi German U-boat U-175 to surface, disabled. U.S. Coast Guard Lifeboat seen approaching the disabled German submarine to assist in rescuing enemy sailors before the submarine sank.
