Nimitz is given a hero's welcome, in Washington, DC, replete with a military parade. He addresses a joint session of the U.S. Congress. Admiral Richard Byrd briefs Admiral Nimitz (now Chief of Naval Operations) about the 1947 expedition to Antarctica. Admiral Nimitz receiving an honorary degree from Columbia University, in New York. (Others present during this event include General Dwight Eisenhower and General George Marshall.) Nimitz, appointed as UN Plebiscite Administrator for Kashmir. Hippie artists paint bodies during an art show in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Men and women paint each others bodies with various designs. They paint the neck, face and back of each other with color.
Hippies kill their name in a mock funeral adopting the name of Freebies in San Francisco. A "dead" man, symbolizing the old Hippie name, is lifted by the hippies during a procession through Haight-Ashbury. The hippie crowd performs and dances around a bonfire, and jumps over the burning remains.
