US President Richard Nixon reviews U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, California. He troops the line, standing in a jeep. Field artillery guns are fired in salute. Large crowd attends ceremony. Presidential helicopter parked near parade grounds. President Nixon and U.S. Marine Commandant,General Leonard Fielding Chapman, walk across lawn together. Marines of First Marine Division, march in fatigue uniforms, with sleeves rolled. Marching band moves to center of field and then performs a slow-step march, while playing. Colors of Units from the First Marine Division assemble in the field and are carried forward. A U.S. Marine Corps flag is lowered and President Nixon fastens a Presidential Unit Citation streamer to it, as General Chapman and a Marine officer in fatigues stand beside him. President Nixon and the officers then turn and walk back towards reviewing stand. President Nixon puts his arm on shoulder of officer in fatigues and converses with him. Nixon shakes his hand. President Nixon and General Chapman join other officials on reviewing stand, where Nixon steps to microphone and begins to speak. (Vietnam War period).

The President strolls out to edge of drive, and then walks quickly to the microphones and makes a statement, and holds press conference.

In 1987, while wildfires were burning over 90,000 acres in four separate areas, covering much of the Salmon River region in California, citizens of the town, Forks of the Salmon, set up a program to make life easier for the firefighters who had arrived from all over the USA. A woman works amongst many packages in a Community Relations office. She explains that they set up a compassion center for firefighters to make them feel more at home.They received more than 4 tons of contributions. She packs up chocolate chip cookies to be given to firefighters. She shows a box full of books donated to them.She is busy placing all manner of donated food items into boxes to be distributed to firefighters who are actively at work battling the 1987 forest fire. Camera shows a large envelope containing thankyou notes to firefighters. The woman expresses the community's appreciation for all they are doing.

He notes that they are all safe and are receiving some medical attention. In light of this event, he reemphasizes the importance of safety. Another supervisor, wearing a green Caifornia Forest Service cap, mentions that their number one priority is to protect structures. He speaks of a goal to establish a holding line from Highway 120 to the River.
