"Things to come" opens with scenes from the World Motor Sports car show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, United States. Foreign imported and domestic American cars, including many concept cars and futuristic space age cars, are being displayed at the 1950s automobile show. Young women get into cars to get a closer look at the new automobiles. Next scene shows a housewife in a modern, futuristic kitchen with many gadgets. A push button kitchen with an automatic refrigerator and cabinet is seen. The woman homemaker presses a button to raise the counter top height in the kitchen of the future. Woman wearing apron consults a revolving picture board of menus and recipes above the stove. Woman puts toast in hidden toaster recessed in stove top. She waves her hand and a cabinet lowers down containing dishes. A cook presses a button and a rotisserie oven raises up, and its door opens to reveal meat roasting inside.
Newsreel "East -West Parley: U.S. and Red China confer in Geneva." Chinese delegation headed by Chinese Ambassador to Poland, Wang Bingnan, arrives for discussion with American representatives headed by Alexis Johnson, in Geneva. They discuss measures to ease tensions between the parties. The U.S. group agrees to seek a renunciation of the use of force in the settlement of Formosa (Taiwan), and the repatriation of civilian prisoners. Ambassador Wang announces the release of 11 American fliers. After the meeting, a Chinese interpreter reads out Wang's message to the press in English.
United States 12th Marine 3rd Marine division FMF conducts artillery exercise near Mount Fuji in Japan. Sailors send messages over telephone and conduct exercise with field pieces and rockets. Sign reads “HEADQUARTERS 12TH MARINES 3RD MARINE DIV. FMF”. Marines practice using artillery under a camouflage net. A Marine using a headphone. A commander gives out orders. U.S. Marines firing rocket artillery near Mt. Fuji. Rocket artillery creates loud and bright explosions.
Russian farmers visit farms in South Dakota to know about the high speed wheat harvesting system. They also visit the Corn Palace in Mitchell where they examine the art and structures made from corn, and they look at trinkets and other local wares in a gift shop.
United Nations organizes a children's art exhibition as a part of summer festival at Chrysler Building in New York in United States. The 500 paintings being displayed are from 99 countries. United Nations under Secretary, Dr. Elf Punch and Barbara Wilkins inaugurates the art exhibition. Children look at the paintings.
