While answering a question he states Congress and the people as the biggest challenge in fighting poverty. He says that reaching the poor people in society is the biggest challenge. He expresses hope that with the passing of the Civil Rights Bill (Civil Rights Act) there will be a reduction in poverty as people will be free to participate in economic activities without discrimination on the basis of race.

President Roosevelt delivers a speech at the Arlington National Cemetery Amphitheater in Arlington, Virginia. He states that United States must protect itself against any kind of aggression, but will never, itself, be an aggressor. William McAdoo addresses the convention and declares Franklin D Roosevelt the Democratic candidate for President of the United States.
