Otto Ohlendorf, the commander of the Einsatzgruppen death squad unit destroyed over 90,000 Jews. One Einsatzgruppen killed 700 people.

A thin covering of snow is on the ground and it appears to be lightly raining or snowing. The soldiers come out of a bunker with gas masks. Some soldiers are already wearing the gas masks and others are hastily putting them on as they emerge from a covered trench into an open trench. The soldiers walk in the trenches. A medical unit passes by in a trench with red cross armbands and one soldier carrying a folded up stretcher or litter. The troops move out of the bunker and stand near a cooking cart or kitchen cart with a boiler. They are handed large vats of hot water, soup or other liquid. Scene changes to an outdoor ceremony with many civilians present, including many women. A French soldier stands nearby as the civilians pull white ribbons from an evergreen tree that is covered by the decorative ribbons. An American Army soldier helps reach a ribbon high in the tree to hand to a civilian.
