Trial of eleven American communist leaders, part of the Smith Act trials of Communist Party leaders, begins in New York City. Crowds gathered to witness a trial outside the Foley Square federal courthouse in New York City. Eleven American communist leaders appear to stand trial on charges against the United States government under the Smith Act. Defendants enter the courthouse carrying suitcases as photographers take pictures. People on the streets hold posters in hands which read “Frame up trial of 12 on today”. Defendants (Benjamin J. Davis, Jr., Eugene Dennis, John Gates, Gil Green, Gus Hall, Irving Potash, Jack Stachel, Robert G. Thompson, John Williamson, Henry Winston, and Carl Winter), arrested members of the National Board of the CPUSA, pose for a group photo. Another member was indicted but was not tried due to illness.
Different models of cars, including the all-new Corvette, are displayed at General Motor's Motorama in New York, United States. A man and woman demonstrate the Corvette as it turns on a turntable.
