Law enforcement officials leaving a building. Wholesale arrests of gangsters. Police load them into police vans. A Police van drives out onto the street. Al Capone arrives by car and ascends steps of courthouse to appear before Federal Grand Jury. Large number of people mill about on sidewalk outside the building. Capone exits the building, descends steps, enters a car and drives away. Mayor William "Big Bill" Thompson exits the building with a woman. He reaches out to another woman who joins them at the top step by the doorway.
The Battle of the "Long Count" at Soldier Field in Chicago. The boxing match between former World heavyweight champion, Jack Dempsey and current champion, Gene Tunney. People rush to a ticket counter for tickets at Soldier Field. In the so-called "long count" scene, Jack Dempsey hits Tunney with a flurry of punches that knock him down. Somewhat dazed,Tunney remains on the canvas. Dempsey stands still, near him, until the referee directs him to a neutral corner before he can begin his count to ten. That delay gives Tunney a few seconds longer than 10, to recover.
Children, in swim suits, play at a pool in in Sutro Baths, San Francisco, California. They slide down a long slide on the north side of the baths, into the water. Children play and jump into the pool. Some dive from spring boards. (Edison Company, Sutro Baths No. 1, 1897)
Firemen race down Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, in fire wagons, pulled by horses. They arrive at a multistory building on fire. Huge plumes of black smoke belch from their pumper apparatus. Firemen place a ladder against the building, and direct water from a hose onto fire in second story of the building, adjacent to the ladder. A commercial sign (Restaurant?) hangs in front of the section of the building where the fire is located. Trees along the boulevard are bare. Spectators are few. The area contains large vacant lots interspersed between several large buildings. A man on a bicycle rides alongside the fire wagons. (Edison Company, 1896.)
