1930 Ford Commercial Reliabiity Tour activities at Ford Airport, Dearborn, Michigan
Visitors walking about on the ramp of the Ford Airport, in Dearborn Michigan, during the 1930 Ford Commercial Reliability Tour. Many are lined up by a fence, looking at a squadron of U.S. Army Air Corps Curtiss P-1 Hawk pursuit airplanes parked in the grass. Scene shifts to closer to terminal building where visitors stroll amongst a variety of planes parked on the ramp. Buildings of the Greenfield Village are seen in the background, especially the Clock Tower. In near background, the squadron of P-1 airplanes have engines running. Camera moves and focuses on those aircraft. A light plane is seen inflight overhead. One of the P-1s taxis on the ramp. Next, woman aviator, Nancy Hopkins is seen in the cockpit of her Viking Kitty Hawk B4 biplane, NC30V. She is wearing helmet and goggles, and appears to have just parked her airplane. Two men greet her (one wearing a cowboy hat, of sorts). She turns and smiles for the camera. Then she removes helmet and goggles and climbs down from the cockpit, to pose next to her airplane, displaying the number “22” on its fuselage. On the plane’s tail, is written,”Kittyhawk” in large letters, followed by “ Kittyhawk Flying Boat Company, New Haven, Conn.” Camera shows formations of U.S. Army P-1s in flights of three, airborne overhead. A solo stunt airplane is seen next.
Homeless people and scenes of destruction after T. A. Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant explosion
Displaced homeless people and refugees gather in grassy area near a railroad station, following explosion of the World War I shell loading facility. The T. A. Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant explosion, sometimes called the Morgan Depot Explosion, occurred in October 4, 1918. The plant was one of the largest munitions facilities in the world at the time. Damage was extensive in the South Amboy and Sayreville area. Clip shows a refugee family posing together, sitting in the grass. Many billboard signs are on nearby fences and a grass and sidewalk area beside railroad tracks. The Perth Amboy Railroad Depot (train station) building on Smith Street is seen behind them (this building has since been moved to Lewis Street). With Martial Law imposed, the next scene shows a Coast Guard or Navy sailor on patrol to keep law and order and prevent looting in front of destroyed shopping area stores on Smith Street in Perth Amboy, including the Reynolds Brothers store (Reynolds Bros), at 134 Smith Street (also 136 Smith Street and 138 Smith Street), where the windows are blown out and debris are seen inside the store. The explosion of the Gillespie plant was one of three similar events in the New York-New Jersey area during World War 1: The Black Tom Explosion in 1916, the Kingsland Explosion in 1917, and then the Morgan Depot Explosion in 1918.

Sailors on German merchant submarine Deutschland as it departs from New London, Connecticut
The Deutschland merchant submarine, of the North German Lloyd Shipping Company, departing the docks in New London Connecticut. The submarine had just completed repairs following a November 16 collision with the tugboat T.A. Scott Jr., while attempting to depart New London. Sailors on the deck of the submarine Deutschland are seen as the submarine departs for Germany, carrying silver bullion, and evading the Entente Powers merchant shipping blockade. Igor Sikorsky, in Vought-Sikorsky VS-300 helicopter, sets new record for sustained flight,at Stratford, Connecticut
Igor Sikorsky seated inside Vought-Sikorsky VS-300, an experimental helicopter at a field behind the Vought-Sikorsky plant off Sniffens lane, Stratford, Connecticut. Sikorsky takes off in his VS-300 helicopter attempting to set a new world's endurance record for sustained flight. At one point during the flight, Robert Mackellar III, an employee, in white lab coat, holds up a sign reading "Worlds Record BROKEN, 1 hour 20 mts, as the helicopter continues to hover, breaking the record of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 40 seconds, set in 1937 by Heinrich Focke in Germany. Judges check their watches to confirm the airborne time of the helicopter. The Vought-Sikorsky VS-300 helicopter sets a new record of 1 hour and 32 minutes sustained flight.
