A U.S. Army 10-inch Coastal Defense gun demonstrated in Washington State, United States

Opening scene shows muzzle of a 10-in coastal defense gun as it rises on its disappearing carriage. The following inscriptions are etched into the end of the barrel: "12IV No.28 ORD Dept. U.S.A. M 1895 Watervliet Arsenal 1899." This gun is installed on an M1901 disappearing carriage at Battery Worth, Fort Casey, Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Washington. View from the side, as the gun rises from below the battery and fires. Shell raises a great splash near a target flag in the water. National Guard is mobilized for U.S. Punitive Expedition to Mexico

A spectator sits on a lamp post to watch soldiers of New York's 6th National Guard Division parade on a street in Manhattan, New York City, following their mobilization for the U.S.Punitive Expedition in 1916. Locomobile Armored cars of the 1st Armored Motor Battery, of the New York National Guard move along a roadway, followed by trucks carrying soldiers and automobiles and motorcycles. Spectators, including girls with flowers, watch from the roadsides. Scene shifts to open platform train station, where National Guard troops, with shouldered rifles, march onto the platform, next to a parked empty passenger train The platform is crowded with spectators and well wishers. Another scene shows a train filled with National Guard soldiers leaning out its windows, waving at friends and loved ones. Closeup of soldiers leaning out the windows of a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger car. Two of them lean out to hold babies and kiss them goodbye. Scene shifts to dusty outdoor rail yard, where army horses are being readied to board boxcars. Closeup of fenced corral in which horses are guided for loading. Huge numbers of horses are herded by cowboys into corrals. A group of National guard soldiers stand on a rail bed and wave and smile for the camera. 14th annual Barrel-Jumping competition, on ice, at Grossinger's Resort in the Catskill Mountains of New York State

Skaters are seen circling the ice rink to gain speed, at Grossinger's Catskill Resort, in the Catskill Mountains, at Liberty, New York. They then attempt to leap over lines of barrels set on the ice, during the 14 annual barrel jumping competition. Contestants are seen clearing successively more barrels as they are added to the starting number of 11. Scene shifts to officials setting up a 16th barrel. Several fail to clear the 16 barrels, which is finally accomplished, again, by last year's winner, Ken Lebel of Lake Placid, New York. He is seen receiving the trophy from Mary Ann Mobley, television and screen personality, and former Miss America (1959).

Seventeen of the world's best ice skating barrel jumpers compete in the 11th annual competition at Grossinger's Catskill Resort in the Catskill Mountains of New York near the village of Liberty. Skaters are seen circling the ice rink to gain speed, and jumping over lines of barrels. Scenes of jumpers failing to clear all the barrels in their attempts. Only 3 contenders manage to clear 15 barrels. Only one, Jim Waldo, of Portland, Oregon, is seen successfully clearing 16 barrels to win the event. He receives his trophy from New York Yankees Baseball team's star catcher, Yogi Berra.
