Morrison-Knudsen construction company builds dams and irrigation canals in Afghanistan

Opening scene shows the Boghra diversion dam and associated irrigation canal built by Morrison-Knudsen Construction Company (MK) along the Helmand River in Afghanistan. Three MKA (Morrison-Knudsen-Afghanistan) engineers stand on the bank of the new irrigation canal of this project. Glimpse of a small power plant built on the canal. A man turns a large wheel releasing water from lateral canals into the main canal which would irrigate an experimental farming area. An MKA yellow truck,carrying three Afghans in the back, drives through an ancient gate to the headquarters for this experimental farm at an ancient caravan fortress named Nad-e Ali. Next, an Afghan is seen driving a tractor pulling a set of harrows to till the soil. A field where seed was planted. Scene shifts to later when the seeds have grown and an Afghan farmers are seen harvesting the new grain by hand. The next year, fields of alfalfa are seen from the first year's seeding. Another tractor is seen working at the edge of a field of crop. Afghan farmers use hand cultivators to tend the crops. View of large fields of crops. U.S. Army conducts exercise Desert Rock VI, as the "Apple 2" atomic explosive test shot is fired at the Nevada test site

U.S. Army troops silhouetted against sky at dawn as they step from trucks and then proceed to their protected positions in area of ground zero prior to the "Apple II" atomic explosive test shot, "Apple Two," associated with the Army exercise Desert Rock 6. They enter sand-bagged trenches. A briefing officer in a trench issues final instructions that are broadcast over a loudspeaker. View of desert dry lake bed, beyond which is ground zero (detonation site) about 5 miles away. Soldiers are seen foxholes and trenches. An M48 Patton tank, of Task Force Razor is seen, with a tank commander speaking to his group by radio. He instructs them to shut down engines, close all hatches and turn turrets to the rear. [Note: According to the U.S. Department of State, Office of the Historian, from February 18 to May 15, 1955, the United States conducted Operation Teapot, a nuclear test series at Yucca Flat and Frenchman Flat on the Nevada Test Site in the continental United States. During the test period 14 nuclear shots and 1 non-nuclear shot were detonated. Several thousand scientific, military (army, air force, navy, marines), and civilian contract personnel participated in the organization, planning, and execution of the test series. Military exercises undertaken during and following the shots took place under the name Desert Rock 6.]
