Street sign in a small city reads 'Main Street'. Cars drive along a wide street. Men confer on sidewalk outside a building. Many cars are parked along the curb. Man with a package "jay walks" across a street causing difficulty for drivers who must avoid him. He, in turn, rails at the drivers. Pedestrians on sidewalk look over unpaved roadway. Man, on upper porch of a building, looks out over cars driving on the street below. A woman cleans window of Hotel upon which "Hotel Dayton, Under New Management," is painted (presumably in Dayton, Ohio).
Delegates to the Republican National Convention are seen walking along the sidewalk, on their way to the Coliseum in Chicago. They carry small American flags. Some carry valises. Closeup of Ohio Senator Warren G. Harding (future President) who would give the keynote address at the convention. He doffs his hat and speaks toward the camera. Other key Republican figures are also seen. Rainy street scene outside the coliseum, where taxis are lined up and many delegates are walking along the sidewalk carrying umbrellas. Signs mark "entrance F" and "Press" entrance. Crowds of people carrying umbrellas form two wide columns on opposite sides of a rain wet street, each column walking in opposite direction from the other. One group includes many women in dark raincoats with white dresses showing below them. A live baby elephant (Republican mascot) stands in the street, covered with a blanket displaying the word "Votes."
Coal loaded tipple cars move out from a mine, stop for weighing at a weigh station on the tracks, and then move into the tipple, where the coal is separated into 3 different sizes of coal. Each size is dumped into Ford gondolas, and then moved by train toward a Ford plant in Toledo, Ohio. Men standing near the conveyor belt empty and dump the coal loads on the conveyor belt.
P-51 airplane, of the U.S. Army Air Forces 334th Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, piloted by Lieutenant Timothy J "Tim" Cronin of Oconomowoc, WI., taxis and parks on apron, at Debden Airfield in England during World War 2. Six ground crewmen run toward plane and greet the pilot. Scene is repeated close up. Pilot in cockpit of plane uses starter to turn the propeller a bit to make it appear he has just taxied in. Men carry injured U.S. Army Air Force Jungle Rescue Pilot Captain James Green from hospital tent to completed MEDEVAC landing zone in Shingbwiyang, Burma during World War II. Green had been injured in a crash of his helicopter. Dr. Underwood talks on hand radio as men sight an incoming Sikorsky YR-4 helicopter. Engineer sets off smoke flare. Helicopter lands and men hold it. Men carry Captain Green on litter to the helicopter and he shakes hands with Pilot Lieutenant Raymond Murdock. Dr. Underwood gives Green an injection in his arm. Men put Captain Green in the helicopter and it takes off. Men cheer and shake hands with Dr. Underwood. This is an early example of one of the first helicopter MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) flights in a combat zone. Prior to this MEDEVAC flight, this particular helicopter, a Sikorsky YR-4, had been dismantled at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio on January 17, 1945, loaded on a C-54 transport, and flown to the North Burma theater of operations. It was reassembled and flown by Capt. Frank Peterson, USAAF, on January 26, 1945 to evacuate wounded weather observer Private Howard Ross from a 4,700 foot mountain ridge in the Naga hills of Burma.
