President Roosevelt addresses the citizens of America on the evening of Brotherhood Day, from the White House in Washington DC.

President Franklin Roosevelt's address to the American citizens on Brotherhood Day from the White House in Washington DC. President Franklin Roosevelt sits by a fireplace in the White House with his wife Eleanor Roosevelt and mother Sara Roosevelt. The President speaks to the citizens of America on a Sabbath Day which is observed as Brotherhood Day. He says the National Conference of Jews and Christians has set this day for the citizens to meet as believing Americans and not as Protestants or Catholics or Jews. And it is on this day that they can dedicate themselves to the things that unite them and not to the things that divide them. He says that even though there are differences in religious beliefs in the citizens of different parts of the country they must learn to respect those differences. America is a product of no single class, creed or race. All citizens have gained much from their forefathers who had come to the country from different parts bringing different beliefs that enriched their life. The religious issue is not between the various beliefs, but between belief and unbelief. This is the time for a religious understanding. The United States is still in the making. Its completion requires the same qualities of faith in God and man. It should be possible for them to melt social, political or economic problems of the citizens on an occasion like this through a spiritual awakening as Brotherhood Day is an experiment in understanding, a venture in neighborliness.
