A United States convoy burning at a roadside and Kampfgruppe Hansen near Poteau Road Junction
Scenes from December 18th 1944,during World War 2. German soldiers of Kampfgruppe Max Hansen, a temporary battle group formed during the Battle of the Bulge (from SS-Panzergrenadierdivision Regiment 2, an infantry regiment of SS Pz Rgt 2 "Das Reich") advance towards Poteau road junction past burning half tracks and Jeeps of U.S. 14th Cavalry group. One man is armed with a Stg44 assault rifle. Cut to squad leader signals advance, in the “wrong direction”. i.e Away from the Poteau junction and back along the road to Recht. Scene shifts to to smoke covered roadway. Germans attempt to start a captured jeep in field. It faces towards right, away from the front lines. An M8 armoured car burns. PK photographer and officer walk past camera, towards the right. Scene cuts to Pz Grenadiers walk away from camera towards the Poteau junction. Smoke covers the road. A Jagspanzer IV/70 comes into view and enters the field after the grenadiers have passed. Cut to grenadiers as they walk along the edge of the roadside ditch, past a burning jeep. Cuts to grenadier crawling under barbed wire fence at roadside, first man, with bandaged hand gets caught on the wire by his greatcoat! Second shot of grenadiers running away from camera in direction of Poteau through the smoke of the burning U.S. vehicles. PK photographer moves into frame before. Cuts to Panzergrenadiers moving towards the cameraman past the vehicles. Half tracks and jeeps loaded with personal equipment baggage. Further shots of the burning vehicles. Filmed looking in the direction of Recht (this is the direction the U.S. convoy was heading when it was attacked).

Fall of shot is adjusted by artillery radio crew. Cuts to road junction at Kaiserbaracke, Sdkfz 250 half tracks pass road sign, VW166 stops at sign before moving off. German PK photographer adjusts sign, removing 202 Ord Depot sign. Stoewer 1500a passes camera towing 12cm mortar, VW166 slows in front of camera. Tiger 222, carrying Fallschirmjager of FJR9 passes camera, followed by motorcyclist. Two officers stop to talk on road as other Sdkfz 251 half track passes. Cuts to two officers walking right to left past camera in front of stationary Sdkfz 250. A crew member stands in rear looking on. Cut to close of of VW166 Schwimwagen, driver smoking cigar, officer looks at map. Cut to Tiger 222 stopped outside Ligneuville. Paratroopers on rear deck share cigarettes with motorcyclist. They are armed with K98, MP44, British Sten gun, MG42. Cut to Gustav Knittel looking at map, they look around as U.S. aircraft fly overhead. Cut to Sdkfz 7 with 2cm gun on road, Kubelwagen passes destroyed U.S. 76mm AT gun.

Fueling of destroyer, USS Cooper (DD-695) underway at sea in the United States. Sailors aboard a destroyer ship. Officers maneuver the destroyer. An engineer involved in the preparations. An animated diagram shows information applicable when a destroyer takes on board fuel oil from a tanker alongside and both ships are underway. The small tanks are filled first. The officers work efficiently and wear life jackets. Men at forward fueling station. An animated diagram shows the course taken by the destroyer and the tanker. The animated diagram shows the collision of both ships. The heaving line and towing line are taken from the tanker to the destroyer ship. The free end of the messenger is returned to the destroyer. Sailors hold the fuel hose and take it to the tanks. A safe distance is maintained between the two ships. The straps are cut after refueling and the destroyer ship increases it's speed. (Note: The USS Cooper was torpedoed by the Japanese Destroyer, Take, during an engagement with Japanese naval forces in the Gulf of Leyte, on December 3, 1944. Reportedly, She exploded, split in two, and sank. Of her crew, only 168 could be rescued. The remaining 191 lost their lives.)

The camera pans left, past destroyed buildings to the Station Square where a bus and some passengers are seen. Camera pans right showing more destroyed buildings, and then a locomotive steaming at head of a train on some undamaged rails. Views of bombed out freight cars. At timecode 2:54, Men are seen sitting and standing on useable rails as they look at some destroyed rail cars. The station is seen in distance at the right. View is along the railroad leading in the direction of Bucharest. Remaining views show the damage to building at Station Square, and the bus parked there.

View shifts to U.S. Army XX Corps troops, trucks, jeeps, halftracks and tank destroyers crossing a pontoon bridge erected by Army Engineers nearby, at the bridgehead captured on 27 August 1944, during World War 2. French civilians watch from the bank of the river and wave as troops pass through their village. Using this crossing, the XX Corps continued its advance on Rheims.

Armed French Resistance fighters pose near roadside sign at entrance to city of Reims, France, on August 30, 1944. American soldiers converse with French priests and Resistance fighters. Residents gather at the Royal Square by the statue of Louis XV. The towers of Notre Dame de Reims Cathedral (Pl. du Cardinal Luçon, 51100 Reims, France) can be seen behind. An American soldier can be seen. A brief ceremony ensues in which French Resistance fighters appear to take responsibility for reoccupation of the city. They then proceed through the city on a truck with loudspeakers, making announcements. U.S. soldiers mingle with residents of the city. (World War II period)
