Crown Princess Michiko, wife of the Crown Prince Akihito, heir to the throne of the Japanese empire, celebrates her twenty eighth birthday in Tokyo, Japan. Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko, wearing a western-style suit and kimono respectively, descend from stairs. Crown Princess Michiko and her husband sit together on a sofa in the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Her son, Prince Naruhito, runs down stairs to greet her. Prince Naruhito, aged two-years old, joins his parents on the sofa. Crown Princess Michiko reads a book to Naruhito. Naruhito playfully teases his father while the latter reads a book. The couple watch Naruhito outside on a tricycle.
