NASA astronaut Alan Shepard disembarks from a transfer van and boards a gantry elevator. The crew help Shepard to board the Mercury capsule atop the Redstone missile. View as the missile is launched. The missile separates and the astronaut feels weightlessness in space. He contacts the ground base via communications systems and speaks to mission control. The capsule is released at sea. Helicopters take off from Essex class aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain CV-39 to pick up the astronaut and the capsule. A helicopter rescues astronaut Shepard and the Mercury capsule. Astronaut Shepard climbs into the helicopter. The cheering crew welcomes astronaut Shepard on the carrier U.S. Navy ship USS Lake Champlain (CV-39) after his successful trip. Following a medical checkup, Shepard and his family is received by the President of the United States John F Kennedy at the White House. Shepard addresses the dignitaries present on the White House grounds, and the assembled clap when he finishes speaking. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy can be seen saying and then repeating to the President, "Pin the medal on him" (perhaps the President had forgotten but was reminded by Mrs. Kennedy). President Kennedy then pins the NASA Distinguished Service Medal on the jacket of astronaut Shepard. Civilians greet astronaut Shepard as he passes in a parade to the Pennsylvania Avenue.

Manufacture and deployment of Boeing B-29 Super Fortress bombers during World War II

Film beginning shows a line of Indian women carrying large wooden bowls on their heads as they walk past a line of Boeing B-29 Super Fortress bombers parked on an airfield ramp in India during World War 2. A B-29 bomber descends and lands on the airfield runway. Scene shifts to the Boeing factory at Wichita, Kansas, where most of the aircraft were manufactured during World War 2. (They were also made by Bell Aircraft Company in Atlanta (Marietta), Georgia, and by the Glenn L. Martin Company in Omaha, Nebraska.) In the Wichita plant, a large room filled with B-29s under construction is seen. A line of women uses hand power tools to finish aircraft parts. A large section of a B-29, including landing gear and tires, moves by overhead crane to be mated with another section in an assembly operation. Men manually push a landing gear with tires installed, along a floor. Workers walk along underneath an assembled B-29 as it is towed out of the factory. Tail view of a B-29 with engines running. The October, 1917 revolution in Russia, during World War 1. Opening scene shows an explosion at the base of a tall column topped by a winged figure with outstretched arms. The column and statue teeter and then fall in a crash to the ground. Within the same scenes another similar collumn stands, but any statue it contained is gone. Next, a Bolshevik rioter is seen on a ladder, prying a large bas relief statue of Romanov double eagle from face of a building. It falls and breaks into many pieces on the ground.
