Clark; and Secretary of Labor, Lewis B. Schwellenbach; In separate segment, Secretary of the Navy, James V. Forrestal, presents Admiral William F.Halsey , who is about to retire, with certificate of promotion to Five Star rank of Fleet Admiral. Witnessing are Chester W. Nimitz, Chief of Naval Operations, and Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King. In a third segment, President Truman is seen pinning a medal on Henry Morgenthau, who has just resigned as Secretary of the Treasury. The President also presents and award to another official.
A newsreel titled 'Nazi war criminal executed' shows General Anton Dostler, a Nazi German war criminal arriving at the execution site in Aversa, Italy. General Dostler, guilty of ordering the shooting of 15 American soldiers during World War II, stands against a pole with his hands tied at the back. A priest recites a prayer as troops remain lined up. General's face is covered and he is executed by firing squad.
A newsreel titled 'Handbag harmony' shows fashion models displaying Milady's handbags and purses at the Saint Regis Hotel in New York City, United States. Women models show a variety of handbags. A model dances with a man as she holds a handbag. They appear to kiss, but view of the kiss is blocked by a handbag.
A newsreel titled "Jap atomic equipment destroyed" shows United States occupation troops looking at Japanese atomic research equipment in Japan a few months after the end of World War II. U.S. Army officers and soldiers tour the Nishina Laboratory of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, better known as the RIKEN Research Institute, at Komagome, in Tokyo, Japan. Laboratory director Dr. Yoshio Nishina is seen in the lab with the American forces. American soldiers are seen dismantling, destroying, and disposing of the the atom smasher cyclotron equipment. Occupation troops in an outdoor field rig demolition charges to some of the equipment and blow it up.
A newsreel titled 'Hitler's big bust costly' shows bust statue of Hitler being auctioned at a ceremony in Germany. Nazi paraphernalia such as flags and a dining set and glassware are also examined by auction bidders. Several views of the Hitler bust art work. Auctioneer invites people to bid for the auction as he speaks from a podium.
A newsreel titled "Captured Nazi subs are sunk" shows British and Polish Navy Destroyers disposing of Nazi German submarines off the coast of Ireland soon after the end of World War 2 during Operation Deadlight. View of captured submarines at dock in Loch Ryan, Scotland, including U-1271, U-1301, and a third submarine awaiting scuttling operations. In the next scene, in the North Atlantic off the west coast of Scotland and northwest of Ireland, allied British and Polish sailors from HMS Onslow and ORP Blyskawica destroyers take aim at U-2324 and then fire naval guns at the submarine. Naval guns fire several shots and U-2324 sinks in the North Atlantic.
