A B-26 bomber with wings removed outboard of its engines, is being maneuvered for shipment at a port in the United States. A Lockheed P-38 airplane is moved on a crane and then rolled along a pier toward the stern of the U.S. Light Cruiser, USS Phoenix (CL-46) which is docked there. Wings of a Curtiss SOC-1 Seagull scout plane can be seen on the Phoenix. Two more P-38 aircraft are rolled along the pier, past another Brooklyn class Light Cruiser at the end of the pier. (Her triple 6-inch gun turrets are noticeable.) Crated supplies are seen being lowered into ship cargo holds. An American M2 light tank being lowered from a crane. She is followed by what appears to be a modernized Pennsylvania class Battleship and other battleships. A British Battle Cruiser followed by another British warship. Various Allied battleships firing their heavy guns. Animated map tracing the “Lend-Lease” routes across the North Atlantic to Iceland, the British Isles, and Murmansk. Map also shows routes by sea and air to the West Indies, Brazil, and South Africa and West Africa, and then by air across Africa, to egypt and the Middle East. Other routes are shown to Suez, Iran, India, and China, as well as trans-Pacific routes to various places. American soldiers crowd the upper deck of a troop transport ship. British shipyard workers go on strike for 10% raise. Workers stand by the gate. Giant cranes idle at the British shipyards. Union leader speaks with workers. Queen Juliana launches a new ship, the Prins der Nederlanen (The Prince of the Netherlands) in Holland. It is designed for the West Indies service. She speaks as she breaks champagne against the bow of the ship..
The entire city turns out for a national holiday celebration in Port of Spain, Trinidad, B.W.I. (British West Indies). Costumed figures, decorated floats and typical dances in the parade for which the participants prepare during the year. Crowd watches the carnival. The participants show their act in the parade in a keen spirited competition for honors awarded for the best display in the pageant. Costumes seen include a car full of people wearing Mickey Mouse masks, as well as a man dressed in native American indian costume.
The flags of United States and United Kingdom fly from a launch. The British Battleship Cruiser, Renown, carrying Edward VIII, Prince of Wales, on his second Empire Cruise, is anchored nearby. The Prince of Wales, in military uniform, arrives by launch. He is accompanied by officials. As he steps from the dock, he is saluted by an American soldier. Accompanying him are British military and naval officers and U.S.civilian officials (in top hats). Lord Louis Mountbatten is a member of the Prince's party. Officials in the group include Air Commodore L.E.O. Charlton, the British Air Attache in the United States and Robert Wood Bliss, Chief of Western European Affairs in the U.S. State Department. Both were dispatched by the British and American governments, respectively, from Washington, DC. The Prince is greeted enthusiastically by a welcoming crowd. The Prince of Wales acknowledges the crowd. He enters an open car and is joined by U.S. State Department representative, Robert Wood Bliss.
Newsreel 'Haitian crisis, Americans leave as war threatens'. Marshal law imposed in Port-au-Prince capital of Haiti as President Duvalier faces threat of invasion from the Dominic Republic. Americans are evacuated after warning from the U.S. State Department. Air crafts arranged for evacuates to fly to Miami. People hug and kiss each other as they part. Passengers seated in the planes. Several women and children are seen at the airport.
