Views from window of a WB-50D aircraft, from the 59th Weather Reconnaissance Flight, while flying in the vicinity of Bermuda, through various cloud conditions. First view shows rising cumulus clouds. This is followed by views as the plane skims the tops of some altocumulus. A later view is taken between some stratiform layers. In change of sequence, WB-50D, tail number 50-2769, is seen cruising in the clear well above some altocumulus clouds.
WB-29 Hurricane Hunter aircraft, of the 59th Weather reconnaissance Flight, landing at Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda. Aerial views of storm clouds. View from inside a building. Pilot in cockpit of WB-29 appears to be flying in turbulent conditions. The pilot, later seen, eating a sandwich and drinking from a cup while monitoring the controls of the aircraft.
Film opens with camera panning across Kindley Field, Bermuda, where WB-50 and WB-29 aircraft of the U.S. Air Force 59th Weather Reconnaissance Flight (Hurricane Hunters) are parked. A captain and a Lieutenant,in the flight operations office of the USAF 59th Weather Reconnaissance Flight (Hurricane Hunters) at Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda. They are planning a flight. The captain holds a large E6B computer which he uses to calculate aircraft headings compensated for wind. He reads these headings to the lieutenant who writes them on their flight plan. They place the flight plan in a brief case when finished. View of a navigator's hand using a pair of dividers to measure on an aeronautical chart (possibly a Loran chart). A Weems plotter is seen laying on the chart.
A WB-50D Weather aircraft from the USAF 59th Reconnaissance Flight (Hurricane Hunters) is silhouetted against a gray sky as it takes off from Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda. at sundown. Another one, tail number 50-4040, takes off. Both aircraft use long takeoff runs and slow rates of climb after breaking ground.
A WB-50D Weather aircraft from the USAF 59th Reconnaissance Flight (Hurricane Hunters) takes off from Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda. It's landing gear is still down as it approaches the camera at end of the runway, But it raises as it passes overhead. The sequence is seen again from a different camera. In both sequences, the aircraft is seen to crab to the left, compensating for a slight crosswind, as it tracks along the runway after airborne.
