Italian operations in Norway during NATO exercise "Arctic Express."
Italian officer stands next to open door of UH-1D helicopter, equipped with skis, that just landed in snow, carrying Italian Major General Alberto Li Gobbi. He is commander of one of the fictional forces engaged in NATO "Arctic Express" exercise war games in Norway. The General consults with members of his staff. He wears insignia of Alpini paratroops on his maroon beret. General Gobbi inspects ski troops and discusses their planned deployment. He speaks with ski troopers and examines red coverings they have fastened to the bottom of their skis. General Gobbi reviews maps on the hood of a vehicle. He then returns to the U.S. Army UH-1D helicopter that brought him to the site. It cranks up to depart.

Camera pans up snow-covered terrain in Norway during NATO "Artic Express" war games. An Italian Alpini ski trooper in a snow foxhole, mans a light machine gun. Several others are seen with their automatic weapons. Some white pup tents are set up behind them. Two troopers move ammunition from a protected position and then settle themselves in it. Camera follows a trooper up a snow road toward a checkpoint where a vehicle pauses by another armed trooper. The vehicle, an jeep carrying Italian troops, stops and obtains instructions. It drives away. A trooper sits at the back of the jeep guarding its rear.

B-52 Stratofortress aircraft drops an X-24 lifting body aircraft at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
A B-52, modified as a mother ship, is seen in flight, with an X-24 lifting body aircraft suspended beneath it. (A slot was cut in the right wing which was fitted with a special pylon for carrying research aircraft.) No significant movements are seen, as the B-52 cruises smoothly at altitude for much of the beginning of the film. Commencing at TC: 01:26, Rear paddle-style flight controls are moved and and adjusted on the X-24. At TC: 04:53, the X-24 emits smoke and again, at TC: 05:27. At TC :05:36, the engine of the X-24 is running and the lifting body aircraft drops vertically away from the B-52, which then continues its cruise at altitude. (Note: the film is reversed so the right wing appears as the left one.)
