Funeral services for former U.S. President John F. Kennedy in Washington DC. A horse-drawn caisson with President Kennedy's flag-draped casket moves along Pennsylvania Avenue and heads for the U.S. Capitol (First St SE, Washington, DC 20004, United States). United States President Lyndon Johnson, former President Kennedy's wife Jacqueline Kennedy and his brother Robert Kennedy get off a car outside the Capitol. President Kennedy's casket lies in state in the Capitol Rotunda. President Johnson places a wreath in front of the casket. Jacqueline Kennedy moves towards the casket along with her daughter Caroline. Thousands lined up outside the Capitol to view the casket. People cry in the Rotunda of Capitol. The cortège to Saint Matthew's Cathedral (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036, United States) shows dignitaries and leaders from all over the world walking along a road. The casket is carried by pallbearers into the cathedral for a Pontifical Funeral Mass followed by dignitaries. Priests conduct the ceremonies in the cathedral. Richard Cardinal Cushing conducts the Pontifical Requiem Mass. The casket is carried back to the caisson by the pallbearers.

Search for survivors after collapse of U.S. Air Force Radar Station (Texas Tower No. 4,TT-4) in the Atlantic ocean, off Long Island.
Search and rescue efforts after the destruction of Texas Tower Number 4, a U.S. Air Force Air Defense Command Offshore Radar station, in 1961. It was located off Long Island (39degrees48'N 72degrees40'W) and operated by airmen of the 646th Radar Squadron. It had experienced structural difficulties including damage from Hurricane Donna, on September 12, 1960 and was being scheduled for repair or dismantling. The USNS New Bedford and the USS Wasp were in the vicinity, on January 15, 1961, when the storm caused the Tower to collapse and sink.But they were unable to save anyone. In subsequent search and rescue operations, after the storm, The USS Sunbird (ASR-15) submarine rescue ship is seen at the site, along with sailors in a motor whaleboat from the USS Blandy (DD-943). A helicopter from the USS Wasp (CV-18)flies overhead. A scuba diver surfaces near the whaleboat and is taken aboard. A motor whaleboat from the USS Sunbird maneuvers in rough water. A casket carrying Kennedy's body pulled on a caisson to the Capitol. Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and President Lyndon Johnson arrive at the U.S. Capitol. Head of the presidential secret service team Jerry Behn helps Mrs. Kennedy from the car. President Johnson places a wreath at the casket to pay his last respects to the late President Kennedy. Jacqueline Kennedy comes forward and bows near the casket. Outside the Capitol people lined up in large numbers to pay their respects to President Kennedy. Funeral procession moves towards St Matthew's Cathedral (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036, United States). Mrs. Kennedy and President Johnson walks six blocks to the cathedral behind the caisson. Casket carried inside the cathedral where a prayer service is conducted. Charles de Gaulle is seen amongst the attending dignitaries. Ave Maria hymn sung as dignitaries from across the globe attend the service. After mass outside the cathedral, John Kennedy Jr. salutes the coffin containing his father's remains at the suggestion of his mother. Cortege proceeds to the Arlington National Cemetery. Soldiers hold the American flag over the casket and later flag handed over to Mrs. Kennedy. She lights up an eternal flame in the memory of President Kennedy.
