View of waves rippling over salt deposits in a part of the Russian lake. A dredging-type tool spins as it grinds and extracts salt from the lake surface. A conveyer system carrying the extracted salt to rail cars. A woman inside a control shack, on a railroad car, controls the speed of the conveyer with a large wheel. Salt is seen clearly deposited on the conveyer panels as they rise. View from below, of the control shack and water being discharged back into the lake from a pipe. View of the conveyer, mounted on its rail car, emptying salt into a train of open rail cars on a parallel set of tracks. At the same time water flows from its discharge pipe, on the opposite side, back into the lake. Finally, a locomotive is seen pulling rail cars filled with salt.

The next scenes show crowds gathered on 25 August, 1946, to celebrate the newly restored fountains, which are seen spraying water again. (Narrator notes that Russians now call the place Petrodvorets, meaning Peter's Palace.) An official speaks, at the ceremony, about the architecture of Petrodvorets and its cultural masterpieces still to be restored. Glimpse of statuary and array of fountains. View from the cockpit of the Presidential VC-137C (Boeing 707) aircraft, named "Spirit of 76", as it taxis on the active runway, and then on the ramp, after landing. View from Air Force One, as the cabin door is opened. A red-carpeted stairway is rolled toward the aircraft. The American flag flies next to the Soviet flag, atop the airport terminal building. A military brass band and honor guard, stand in formation. Several Soviet officials walk toward the Presidential aircraft. Mrs. Pat Nixon, exits the airplane a step ahead of President Nixon. They descend the stairway and are greeted by USSR President Nikolai V.Podgorny, Premier Alexei N. Kosygin, Foreign Minister, Andrei A. Gromyko, and other Soviet officials. The President and Mrs. Nixon shake hands with the officials and Mrs. Nixon accepts a bouquet of flowers. Next, the President is seen at attention, on the airport ramp, with three Soviet officials, and a U.S. Army attache, as the Soviet bandmaster conducts the band in what appears to be the U.S. National Anthem. View shifts, again, to the doorway of the President's airplane. The Soviet band and honor guard are seen from a stand of trees, as they parade past the airplane. Finally, a long line of automobiles is seen in a motorcade headed toward the city.
