The U.S. Army Ninth Armored Division arrives in Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia, to be deactivated following World War II

Troops coming home to America at the end of World War 2. An Army Sergeant just returned from Europe, at the end of World War 2, stands on a pier, beside the troop ship USS General J. C. Breckinridge (AP-176). With him is a woman who wearing a jacket emblazoned with many emblems of U.S. military units. The sergeant places the insignia of the 10th Armored Division on her back. They hug and laugh. Scene shifts completely to 9th Armored Division soldiers at Camp Patrick Henry, Newport News, Virginia, holding the large sign originally placed on the Ludendorff bridge in Germany, by C Company of the 9th Armored Engineer Battalion during the war. It reads:"Cross the Rhine with dry feet, courtesy of 9th Arm'd Div." The soldiers carry the sign past a wooden building at the camp. Change of scene shows Ninth Armored Division troops arriving by train at Camp Patrick Henry. They march in loose order through a Victory Arch bearing words: "Welcome Home" at an entrance to the camp. More views of the troops marching into Camp Patrick Henry, where the 9th Division is to be deactivated. In the camp grounds, Sergeant reaches into his dufflebag and takes out a small puppy. Wounded soldiers from European Theater of Operation arrive by Air Evac C-54 aircraft to LaGuardia Airport, New York, where they are greeted by families and friends during World War II. Film opens with view through main cargo door into cabin of a military C-54 transport parked on the ramp at LaGuardia Airport, New York. The cabin is configured for air evacuation. Inside, wounded American soldiers are seen in a rack of litters stacked four high. A man in civilian clothes holds a clip board and speaks to soldiers on the airport ramp. A man drives a fork lift to the cargo door and lowers two of the wounded on litters to the ground, where waiting family members reach down to kiss and embrace them. Photographers take pictures and Army officers welcome the wounded. Media technicians set up microphones near on soldier who is with a woman. They record as the woman and soldier embrace and speak to each other. After momentary break, scene shifts back to cargo door of the C-54, where several Army soldiers watch the activities below where women greeting two more wounded are being photographed and recorded as they are reunited. The next scene is in a hangar, where a wounded soldier is sitting up in his litter with wife or sweetheart beside him and a man and woman behind him. Two microphones are set up next to them. New York Firemen work to extinguish fire at the Lee Brothers storage warehouse at 8th Avenue and 123rd Street in New York City.

Scenes of fire fighters battling fire at the Lee Brothers warehouse at 2296 Eighth Avenue at 123rd Street in New York City. The warehouse blazes. Firemen spray water from hoses at the blaze. Two men talk to each other at the site. View of damaged fire fighting equipment, cars, and debris. (FDNY Firemen Elbert Hardman and Nelson Tuite, both of Engine 36 were operating the deckpipe on the 1929 Seagrave hose wagon of Engine 36, when an explosion blew out the top corner of the building front wall. Both fire fighters were killed and the hose wagon was destroyed.) The firemen evacuate casualties and transfer them into ambulance. Thick ice covers the building from freezing temperatures, after the blaze was extinguished. (World War II period).

Across the road behind him, U.S. soldiers, in a parked 3/4 ton truck, are hit by gunfire from unseen source, and tumble from the truck,to the ground, where they writhe in pain. One of their unhurt companions runs for help, as a jeep stops near the truck. Next, soldiers are seen lifting the wounded from the truck, on litters. Medics carry them into a building.
