The German Auxiliary Cruiser, Komet (masquerading as Ryoku Maru) seeking Allied shipping targets of opportunity in the Pacific during World War 2. Sailors relax on her deck.Some paint her motor launch. Several sailors in white trousers, dark jackets, and white side caps, hurry into formation where they are inspected by supervisor wearing a checkered necktie. Officers in Khaki look through binoculars as the Komet's Arado 196 float plane lands and taxis in, guided by sailor with signal flags. The pilot is standing up in the cockpit.He reports to the bridge and exchanges salutes with Komet's Captain, Rear Admiral Robert Eyssen. He discusses his flight observations with other officers. Smoke from a steaming ship seen on the horizon. An officer on the deck lights a cigar. Smoke and sound of Komet firing her 15cm deck guns. Silhouette of freighter, MV Australind, very low in the water. Next,life boats row toward Komet carrying 43 survivors who climb aboard. Komet's Arado 196 float plane flies past and the Australind is seen sinking, It is 8/14/1941, off Galapagos Islands. Next, seas are rough. Smoke is seen from Komet's guns firing again, and another ship is stopped in the water.Boarding party from Komet lowers away in motor launch and boards the stopped ship. Sign on her says "No Smoking," in English. Armed Komet sailor guards her seamen. Glimpse of one of Komet's 15cm deck guns. Later, crew of stopped ship resume duties, as Komet pulls away from her. Komet's sailors wave. (Ship is likely American, so not yet active in Allied war effort.) Next, Komet and her supply ship, Kulmerland seen in a Japanese port to replenish and refuel. Her crew are now in proper German Kriegsmarine uniforms, as Japanese Naval officers board for a visit. Admiral Eyssen and his executive officer entertain the Japanese officers. German and Japanese flags fly side-by-side. Admiral Eyssen and his executive officer, with Japanese officers, tour local sites. Two Komet sailors view Mt. Fuji.

Attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese Navy on December 7, 1941, as filmed from the deck of U.S. Navy Hospital Ship, USS Solace (AH-5). Ships docked at Pearl Harbor. Several small launches speed across the calm harbor. Suddenly a bomb bursts in the water, behind one of the launches. Several U.S. SBD Dauntless and F4F aircraft, from the USS Enterprise, fly over the deck of the Hospital Ship, with their landing gear down (to land at Ford Island). U.S. Navy ship USS Nevada (BB-36) leaves the harbor at high speed, throwing up a bow wave. Japanese aircraft bomb U.S. Navy ship USS Arizona (BB-39) docked. The ship explodes and sinks. A large smoke column rises from the explosion. (This image has been reversed. From the perspective of the USS Solace, the Arizona should be pointing to the right, not to the left.) Anti aircraft firing from U.S. Navy ships fills air with black Flak puffs. Various ships burn. (World War II period).
