Opening scene shows Sammy Davis Jr. singing the song, "You're Nobody 'Till Somebody Loves You." while he moves about the stage arranging items for his USO show aboard the U.S. Aircraft Carrier, USS Hancock (CVA-19)during the Vietnam War. A U.S. Marine stands guard at stairs leading to a stage, that is set up on the hangar deck of the ship. Recorded orchestral music is heard accompanying him in background. Closeups of Davis on stage. Audience participates by clapping rhythmically as Davis sings. He uses a black hat as a prop in his performance. At one point, he sings alternately with the audience responding. The ship is anchored somewhere in protected waters, with land visible in near background.
U.S. soldier of 50th Infantry Regiment looks in a mirror as he daubs his face with a camouflage stick, during the Vietnam War. He is in a sand-bagged location with his M-16 rifle in reach nearby. Two other soldiers are seen. One is daubing the other with a camo stick. Camera backs away to reveal several soldiers around a sand-bagged wooden structure. All are applying camo stick to their faces. One ties a white band around his head. Scene shifts to inside of the building, where a Sergeant is briefing a squad of soldiers, using a map placed against a window. Squad members make notes.
Severely wounded United States soldier lies on a stretcher in a U.S. Army emergency treatment facility. Doctors and nurse attend the patient. Doctor removes a bandage from soldier's face. The patient's face and upper body smeared in blood. Doctors examine wounded soldier's wounds and begin treatment. (Vietnam War period).
Wounded United States soldier on a stretcher is brought to the emergency room (in a Quonset hut) for treatment. Views as the stretcher is begin run across a field toward the treatment station. Doctors give Intravenous injection and oxygen to the patient. Nurse checks soldier's blood pressure. Another doctor bandages patient's arm. Nurse checks flow of the drip bottle. Doctor and nurse converse with each other while treating patient. (Vietnam War period).
