Next Lieutenant General Mark Clark, Commanding General, Fifth Army, is seen descending a ladder from the USS Ancon (AGC-4), a headquarters and communications command ship, from which he had been observing the amphibious landings at Salerno, Italy. General Clark is helped aboard a waiting PT boat, where he joins several other officers on deck, with whom he converses.
