A Grumman TBM-3U, utility aircraft, touches down at edge of flight deck and instantly veers to the left, as if its left main gear collapsed. It continues turning, noses over, tail high, and falls off the port side of the carrier deck. Sailors rushing to the accident site, and standing at the aft railing as the Guadalcanal begins a sharp turn to port.

U.S. Marine fighter FM Wildcat comes for a fast landing and fails to catch arresting cables. The FM Wildcat hits barrier, and flips over, up-side-down. Sailors rush to the site and attempt to right the aircraft by raising the tail. But the plane falls back down. Then they right it by rolling it over on its nose and right wing.

The aircraft sustains considerable damage, but no fire. Deck crewmen respond quickly. But fate of pilot is not evident. In another instance, a U.S. Navy SB2C Helldiver comes in high, snags a restraining cable, but lands in a crab, causing its left main gear to collapse. It ends up facing the Island, with both main gear broken, and being inched forward by tension of the arresting cable. There is no fire. Finally, several F4U Corsair fighters are seen landing satisfactorily on the flight deck. In one scene, an F4U, following behind one landing, is forced to go around.

An F4U Corsair airplane approaches to the port side of the USS Guadalcanal underway in the Atlantic, during World War 2. It snags the first arresting cable, but heads off the port side, until the arresting cable pulls it back onto the flight deck, narrowly missing the photographer. Spray from firefighters is seen. The pilot exits the cockpit, toward the camera. flames break out beneath the airplane, and smoke rises from the scene. Suddenly large quantities of liquid are seen spraying the scene as firefighters come closer, extinguishing the fire.

Lieutenant General William H. Simpson, Commanding General of the U.S. Ninth Army in Western Europe, arrives by jeep and talks at length individually to several soldiers of the U.S. 35th Infantry Division (attached to the British 21st Army Group). Lt. Gen. Simpson is greeted by XVI Corps CG MG John B Anderson who escorts Simpson into XVI Corps Headquarters. Lt. Gen. Simpson and MG Anderson stand with British Army Generals including MG Lyne of British 7th Armored. Simpson then puts on coat and helmet. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lt. Gen. Simpson, Lt. Gen. Omar N Bradley come out of the Corps Headquarter building and enter a car.
