Italian torpedo boats sink SMS Szent Istvan (Saint Stephen), a Austro-Hungarian Battleship off the Dalmation (Croation) coast in the Adriatic Sea. The sailors on the Szent Istvan cling to the decks as the ship lists and is very low in the water. Sailors aboard the ships. End of World War 1. A few scenes show British troops returning to London, amid celebrations after Armistice. Much more extensive scenes show German soldiers returning to Berlin. Allied armies advance into territory held by the Germans, near the end of World War 1. After 47 years of German rule, citizens of Alsace-Lorraine welcome victorious French troops as they march through a decorated arch. They parade behind a brass band, along streets lined with well-wishers. Sreets are filled with Alsatians in traditional costumes. Alsatians pull down an equestrian statue of the Kaiser and beat on it with hammers. When Armistice Day arrives, firing ceases and German and French troops pose quietly looking at one another. People parade in the streets, along with marching troops.
United States Naval fleet in the Atlantic Ocean during World War I defending shipping lanes from German U-boats, and transporting soldiers to battle front. Battleships and cruisers of U.S. Navy at sea. Sailors aboard the deck. A group of African American crew members dancing during a relaxation time. A destroyer ship escorts a convoy. A German submarine in view. The crew being called to quarters as they man a battery. Men aboard ship rush to quarters. U-boat alarm on the transport ship. Torpedo being fired from the submarine and misses the transport ship. Deck guns and Y-Gun depth charges being fired at the submarine. Explosion in water. Smoke rises up from water. A destroyer spreads a smokescreen around a convoy.
