Physician of the 1st United States Marine Corps Medical Battalion performs surgery on a wounded U.S. Marine in a tent at Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, within the Solomon Islands archipelago. Surgeon prepares instruments for operation. Patient is given anesthesia via inhalation. His back shows large cut swabbed with antiseptic. The patient is given intravenous injection. Surgeon performs a thoracotomy incision on patient's chest to remove shrapnel from his thoracic cavity. The lung is visible in the wound as a retractor is placed to expose the inside of the chest. The surgeon removes the shrapnel and places it on piece of cloth. Surgeon reapproximates the ribs using wire suture. Chest tube is inserted. Doctors dress the wound with gauze. Film opens showing Adolf Hitler and staff awaiting arrival of a train at the platform of Gorlitz Station, the private station railroad station serving Hitler's East Prussian headquarters (called the Wolf's Lair) near Rastenburg (now Ketrzyn, Poland) . A Steam locomotive pulls a passenger train into station. The Bulgarian regent Prince Kiril steps from the train and greets Hitler. The second regent, Professor Bogdan Filov, gets off the train and shakes hands with Hitler, Generals on Hitler's staff, including Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, and German Foreign Minister Joachim Von Ribbentrop. Hitler escorts Prince Kril to a waiting car. Brief glimpse of the Bulgarian flag mounted on side of the car. Next, Hitler escorts Prince Kril from the car into a building at the Wolf's Lair. Members of Hitler's military staff and Professor Filov follow them into the building. Inside, Hitler removes his hat and gives it to an aide. He greets Bulgarian officers and officials. Several closeups of Hitler. Outside a Bulgarian officer chats with Marshal Keitel and another German officer. Hitler and Prince Kril emerge from the building and Hitler bids them farewell. View of the Prince riding away in a car. Next, he arrives and steps from the car at a different location. Closeups of the Prince as he enters the building. Next, he is seen conversing with Von Ribbontrop, and then escorting Prince Kiril and Professor Filov up some stairs to a room with a view. They continue their tour descending some steps into a dining room where a table decorated with flowers is set for a meal.
