U.S. President Democratic party candidate Adlai Stevenson attends an informal backyard gathering of supporters in California. He accepts a donut from woman who wears a campaign button with "Adlai" written on it. Mr. Stevenson dunks his donut in a cup of coffee, as he converses with the woman. American singer and actor Sammy Davis Jr. comes over and shakes Adlai Stevenson's hand and they converse. Several other participants are seen.
French military engineers using a transit, on a tripod, take surveying measurements. Two French Legionnaires use a pneumatic drill to make holes in rock for dynamite sticks. Large group of local tribesmen work on project. Legionnaire places dynamite into prepared hole in rock. Dynamite is detonated producing cloud of smoke and causing large amounts of rock to collapse. Local workers scramble over the dynamited area.
