People gather at the hearings. Photographers click pictures as Actor Robert Taylor arrives. He sits at witness table. His lawyer talks to him. Member of committee orders audience not to applaud. Taylor states that he supports outlawing the Communist Party, if it will reduce communist threat to the United States. Member of committee thanks and praises Taylor as he leaves.

Journalist Howard Rushmore is asked questions. He is asked about Gerhart Eisler and whether he was "Jerome's "boss, and whether Eisler was a Communist. Witness answers that he is one of the major ones and that he is a representative of communist international in the United States. He mentions giving certain communists favorable press. Member of committee calls such communists 'Sacred Cows', witness call them 'Sacred Red Cows'. He takes name of Edward G Robinson and states that Jerome had instructed him to always defend Robinson, even if he gave a poor performance in a bad picture. . He talks to the committee about meeting of American committee, for the protection of foreign born, in Cleveland. Attorney General Biddle labeled it as a communist front in 1943. The committee asks him about League of American Writers and whether it is a Communist organization. Journalist also takes names of Earl Browder and Mike Gold, a writer for the Daily Worker newspaper.

He said he would never support communist related persons or ideas. He says that they are said to be 'war mongers' by Mr McDowels. He said the program should be according to rights of Americans for fair trial. He talks about Howard Rushmore. He condemns parties based on hate and says he will never praise those who work with unconstitutional means. He addresses Mr Richard B Vail and says that American Motion Pictures reach every part of world and it would make bad affect if it would reflect pro communist ideas and would harm world peace.
Attorneys Robert Kenny and Bartley Crum pursue motion to quash subpoenas, to appear before the HUAC, for clients John Howard Lawson and 18 other witnesses, on grounds of Committee illegality and unconstitutionality. Mr. Stripling of the Committee suggests pursuing the matter through the Courts. The attorneys appeal and the subcommittee exits to consider the matter in closed executive session. They return and announce unanimous decision to reject the request, on grounds that they are operating under Public Law 601 and have not the authority to deviate from their charter under that law. The attorneys then request that previous witnesses, whom they accuse of giving false testimony, be recalled. The motion is denied and John Howard Lawson is called to testify.
