Russian nuns (nurses) who staff the hospital, at Troitsky Avenue, near Olga barracks, take part in the ceremony. (Note: This flag-raising constituted an act of defiance by U.S. Red Cross and Army medical personnel, since British medical authorities had opposed starting an American hospital in Archangel. It became the first Red Cross Hospital there, that was jointly staffed by Russian and American Red Cross nurses. American soldiers of the American North Russia Expeditionary Force hold a brief ceremony. Russian sisters (nuns) stand outside their Red Cross hospital on Troitsky Avenue, near Olga barracks, in Archangel, as Captain Wynn of the American Red Cross, and U.S. Army Captain Hall, raise Red Cross and American flags over it. Thus it becomes the first Red Cross Hospital in Archangel, jointly staffed with Russian and American Red Cross nurses. Brief view of the Army band marching back after the ceremony. They are watched by Russians on the sidewalks. (Note: Captain Wynn and the American Red Cross went on to equip the hospital, and American Army Captain Hall and Lieutenant Kiley were placed in charge of it.
