A geologist carries a rod. A derrick is built on the established location of the well. Men put drilling equipment at the base of the derrick in the process called 'rigging up'. Equipment of the rotary method of oil drilling in operation. Animation shows the different strata of the earth crust. Men operate the drilling equipment. The animation shows how a bore is drilled through the layers of shale and sandstone to reach oil sand below.
