Launches of several U.S. Warships during World War II

Preparations for launch of the USS Hancock (CV-19) at Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts, on January 24, 1944. . Shipyard riggers removing supports from under the ship's hull. Platform at bow is decorated with bunting. Scene shifts to Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York, and the launching of the USS Missouri (BB-63), on January 29, 1944. Crowd gathered around the bow as the Missouri goes down the ways. Another change of scene to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company of Newport News, Virginia. Here the ways are emptied following the launch of the Light Cruiser, USS Hancock (CL-81) on June 19, 1943. The Hancock can be seen in the water. Tugs attend to the newly launched Cruiser.

Activities aboard USS Hancock (CV-19) in the Pacific Ocean, during World War 2. Opening scene shows remains of a General Motors TBM Avenger aircraft from Torpedo Squadron Seven (VT-7) that crashed on landing. The forward cockpit area appears intact, but behind that, the fuselage is torn off and sits separately on the flight deck. Sailors move the the tail section closer to the edge of the deck. Sailors and some flight crew stand on the deck, as the Hancock appears to be underway at high speed, judging by the water in background. Scene gets dark (underexposed) as sailors move the wreckage. Next, a crane is seen erected and lifting the main wreckage. But the load drops back down on the deck. Filming is interrupted, but picks up again, as the mobile crane carries the wreckage to the edge of the deck and drops it into the ocean.

A U.S. Swift Boat refueled from USS Esteem in An Thoi, Republic of Vietnam.

Activities aboard Swift Boats in An Thoi, Republic of Vietnam. A Swift Boat pulls out into the harbor. Mountains covered with trees in the background. It approaches USS Esteem (MSO-438) anchored out in harbor. L L Ellis, BM2 (Boatswain's Mate Second Class) controls the ship. His hands at the helm. P H Harp, EN2 (Engineman Second Class) pulls refueling nozzle aboard from the USS Esteem. Harps kneels down on fantail with the fuel nozzle and lets the fuel run down into the tank. He places a rag around the end of nozzle and pulls the nozzle out from the tank. He walks with the fuel hose. Harp refuels the tank and then puts hose over the side to let fuel drain from hose into water. He hands the refueling nozzle to a man on the Swift Boat.
