At Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii,vehicles and U.S. Air Force personnel surround the open tail of a Military Air Transport Service C-97 aircraft, carrying French troops en route home from Indochina. Scene change shows the French troops wearing flower leis, being treated to refreshments by Red Cross volunteers, in a hangar at the base. A U.S. Air Force officer greets some of the French troops. Change of scene shows group of Americans greeting French troops as they deplane though rear doors of a C-97 airplane. Greeters place leis around their necks and hula dancers entertain them as they walk across the ramp to waiting Red Cross buses. One French soldier dances a few steps with the hula dancers, on his way. Their bus pulls away.

The bus drives away, and scene shifts to wounded French soldiers on litters being carried from the aircraft. They also receive leis from women greeters. Americans gather around the open rear doors of the aircraft as troops exit. A group are getting refreshments from volunteers at the hangar canteen.

Shellback initiation ceremony aboard the ice-breaker USS Edisto (AG-89), under the command of Commander E. C. Folger, USN. The ship was headed for Antartica, as part of the U.S. Navy Antarctic Development Project, a continuation of the 1947 "Operation High Jump." Commander Nutt and Mr Grace serve as officers of the deck during King Neptune's shell back ceremony. Mr Grace uses two toilet rolls as binoculars and looks through them. The crew search for Davy Jones. Mr Boffa , a civilian dressed in a costume, also looks for Davy Jones. Mr. Malcolm Davis of the Washington Zoo is seen. A pollywog officer on the deck. He reports to the officer that they could not find Davy Jones.
Vietnamese refugees arrive in Guam aboard the SS Transcolorado, during Operation New Life.
The freighter SS Transcolorado (chartered by the U.S. Military Sealift Command, as a civilian cargo ship, designated T-AK-2005) arrives in Guam carrying at-risk South Vietnamese refugees who will be temporarily housed there under Operation New Life. (Later, most will be transferred to the United States under Operation New Arrivals.) Views of the refugees, including many children, on the deck of the ship. U.S. Marines carry a sick, or injured person from the ship on a litter. Families descend gangplank to the pier, where they are guided to hastily set up reception center. Grocery carts are employed to assist refugees carrying belongings. Local people line up to distribute items, including flip flops, to the refugees, as they pass along the pier. A merchant marine sailor assists one of the families. A woman dressed in white intercepts a Vietnamese woman carrying a small child, and directs her to a tent set up as a "Baby Center." (Many tents are seen in the background.) Inside the Baby Center, reception workers prepare food and items needed for baby care. Several Vietnamese refugee women sit on a bench in the tent, with their babies.
