Launch of the USS Hancock (CV-19) at Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts
In preparation to launch the aircraft carrier,USS Hancock (DV-19) shipyard workers (Riggers) at the Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts, remove key supports from under her hull. On the upper side, workers use timber battering rams to loosen supports, while below, others use ropes to lower them. The platform at the ship's bow is covered in patriotic bunting. The ship begins to move down the ways, stern first, into the water. As she floats away, tugboats standby to assist.

A Lieutenant explains gun camera scoring to a group of Air Force personnel, in an auditorium. He winds the film on a 100 foot reel, removing any damaged or unused film and splicing a leader on to it. He writes pilot and mission information on the film leader. Lecturer then illustrates scoring process, using a blackboard, and demonstrating with a scoring device adapted from a 16mm motion picture projector. Finally he displays charts dealing with trajectories of 30 caliber ammunition and relationships of range, span of target, and image size. He performs arithmetic calculations on the blackboard. Animated diagrams illustrate points being discussed. A Lieutenant in the audience asks about ground targets, and the instructor discusses that and also responds to several other questions from the audience. (World War 2 period.)

A ship blows up at sea (presumably torpedoed by a German submarine). Newspaper of April 2, 1917 announces the United States and Germany at War. U.S. Secretary of War, Newton D. Baker, speaking on a public platform, outdoors.. General John J. Pershing, Commander of American Expeditionary Forces in World War 1, is seen seated behind Secretary Newton. Scene shifts to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson signing papers his his desk at the White House, Washington, DC. Next, Red Cross women are seen serving coffee into the mess of American soldiers about to embark for Europe. Another Red Cross woman carries a basket of baked goods. The soldiers are checked off by officers at the pier, and then embark on a troop ship.
