Shellback initiation ceremonies aboard the U.S. Navy ship USS Indianapolis (CA-35) in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship is en route to South America carrying President Roosevelt on "Good Neighbor" state visits. Ambient sound and music is heard periodically during the clip. Sailors dressed in costumes perform on the ship deck. Sailors in uniform salute an officer. Actors perform on a stage. A pirate flag on the mast of the ship. King Neptune speaks to the captain (Captain Henry Kent Hewitt). A group of sailors play a band. Spectators watch the act. In second half of clip President Franklin Roosevelt is seen watching the ceremonies and at the end King Neptune decrees that President Roosevelt, the Commander In Chief of the U.S. Navy is now a Shellback himself (having crossed the equator for the first time with the sailors of the USS Indianapolis.
A U.S. Army jeep crosses a Bailey Bridge in France during World War II. Army engineers are still working around the bridge. The jeep passes a bulldozer and a dump truck at the site. Wrecked wooden building in the background. Scene shifts to another Bailey Bridge across a canal. A tractor pulling a construction crane and a truck crosses the bridge, followed by dump truck. Several barges are in the canal, including one with a white star identifying it as an American army barge. Scene changes to the site of a bombed out bridge, where Army Engineers are at work. A damaged cathedral dominates the opposite shore. Camera pans to left where a huge steel truss bridge is seen high overhead. Further left, is the Bailey Bridge, shown earlier, across the canal. Closer view of the Bailey Bridge with construction moving across it. Change of scene shows French General Charles de Gaulle and U.S. Major General Leonard Gerow leaving a building, accompanied by a surrendered German General and followed by some American and French soldiers. After posing for the camera, they turn around and all reenter the building.

Archbishop Francis Cardinal Spellman visits U.S. troops in Korea during Korean War. Cardinal Spellman disembarks from a U.S. Military C-121 (Lockheed Constellation) aircraft, at Seoul Airport, in Korea. He is dressed in black clerical habit for traveling. General Matthew Ridgway greets Cardinal Spellman .A Korean girl presents flowers to the Archbishop who enters a car and drives away. Later, Cardinal Spellman, dressed in Army clothing, arrives at a sanctuary set up under a very large tent. Many soldiers line up to kiss the Cardinal's ring. Cardinal Spellman conducts Mass and administers Holy Communion to soldiers.
Air Defense displays in NORAD (North American Air Defense) Command Post, Ent Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. Airmen updating the displays. NORAD commander, General Lawrence S. Kuter and his Canadian Deputy, are in the Control Room. General Kuter uses telephone. Technicians in radar warning site detect two target missile returns on their scope. U.S. ship at sea detects target returns on its radar. EC-121 aircraft aloft detects radar returns. All this information is reported and consolidated at NORAD command post.
