Welcome of U.S. NASA astronaut Scott Carpenter in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The fourth U.S. astronaut to probe the outer space and the second man to orbit the earth, astronaut Scott Carpenter disembarks from a plane. His wife and children welcome and greet him at an airport. He waves at the civilians as his motorcade moves through the streets. At the Manned Spacecraft Center other members of the Project Mercury team gather. Astronaut Carpenter receives the Space Distinguished Medal. He addresses journalists at a press conference organized in his home town Boulder, Colorado. At the conference he elaborates on the details of the flight.

Former U.S. President Harry S. Truman, arrives at West German Chancellery in Bonn, Germany, by car with motorcycle escort. He steps from car and is greeted and escorted inside. Photographers take pictures. Helmeted armed German guards stand at entrance. Inside, President of West Germany, Conrad Adenauer, escorts Truman to a microphone, where he makes some statements. (Truman carries a cane.) Candelabra shown in ceiling. Reporters take notes. Adenauer makes some brief remarks. Truman and Adenauer smile and shake hands. Plaque identifying house where Ludwig van Beethoven was born. Former U.S. President Truman emerges, after visiting the house, and enters his car. It is raining, and streets are wet. Spectators holding umbrellas, smile, and laugh. Truman's car and motorcycle escort drive away.
U.S. Army H-19 Helicopter approaches an Allied military camp in Pusan (Busan) area in South Korea, and lands on a pierced steel plank pad. It keeps engines running and rotors turning as several foreign allied officers climb out. U.S. Army military police (MPs) surround the helicopter and begin unloading what look like wooden footlockers. One MP checks off items on a clipboard. Two more foreign Allied officers get off the helicopter (one is a woman). Allied troops at the base help them into a car, and they drive away. A line of 6 MPs carries 5 of the offloaded boxes, across snowy ground. American soldiers standing around, watching, take photographs. Allied soldiers at the base load many wooden boxes into an army truck, which then drives away. Ground is covered with melting snow. (Korean War period)
French military engineers using a transit, on a tripod, take surveying measurements. Two French Legionnaires use a pneumatic drill to make holes in rock for dynamite sticks. Large group of local tribesmen work on project. Legionnaire places dynamite into prepared hole in rock. Dynamite is detonated producing cloud of smoke and causing large amounts of rock to collapse. Local workers scramble over the dynamited area.
